Tiffany & Co
Tiffany’s, the New World’s most celebrated and influential goldsmiths and jewellers, was founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany (1812-1902) in New York in 1837. Branches were later opened in London and Paris. Much of the success of the enterprise was due to the energy and brilliance of Edward Chandler Moore (1827-1891), who for many years was the artistic director of Tiffany’s silver department. His father was the silversmith John C. Moore who was chosen by C.L. Tiffany to manufacture the firm’s silverware. The result of this partnership quickly bore fruit, for by the middle of the 1850s Tiffany’s was recognised as the best makers of silver in the United States.
