Shaped oblong, the boldly embossed and chased border incurved at the angle, decorated with honeysuckle sprays and grotesque masks below bold gadroons, the central plaque chased with a woodland setting of Adonis leaving Venus, putti and doves in attendance

The border engraved with the arms of Craven, probably for William, 2nd Earl of Craven (1809-1866), Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Recorder of Coventry, and High Steward of Newbury. He married on 5 September 1835 Lady Emily Mary Grimston (d.1901), second daughter of the 1st Earl of Verulam.

The reverse of the border engraved: 'This Border weighing 80oz 18dwt was made to receive an Old Chased Plate of Unknown Assay.'

The reverse of the plaque engraved: 'Beyde Platten M.8.7.3. 1759'
